Idles – Ultra Mono

Que le nouveau disque des Idles soit attendu comme la huitième merveille du monde est au final assez inquiétant pour le rock. Les deux premiers albums ont montré un groupe capable de faire comme les Bad Religion tout en ayant quelques faiblesses d’écriture. En effet, Brutalism et Joy As An Act Of Resistance possèdent des grandes chansons. Mais aussi des choses bien plus ternes et qui ennuient.
Tous ces problèmes d’écriture semblent désormais résolus. Inspiré par Monet et Le Caravage, Joe Talbot a sûrement écrit sur ce disque ses meilleures chansons. Son discours est toujours aussi politiquement incisif (et salvateur). Mais il passe beaucoup mieux des lignes de basse et des mélodies comme celles que l’on croise sur Model Village ou The Lover. Produit par Adam Greenspan et Nick Launay (INXS, Nick Cave et des centaines d’autres), Ultra Mono enterre toute la concurrence (qui devrait perdre des plumes en écoutant ce disque) et clouera le bec aux détracteurs du groupe.
